New Year's Resolutions for 2018
January 5, 2018
Everyone has new year's resolutions for themselves, whether it be going back to the gym, budgeting their time a little better, or eating healthier. Below are a few proactive resolutions that you can take to make sure that everything is in order, in the event that you do get into a car accident.
Check Your Policy
Periodically throughout the year, you should check your policy to make sure that it is accurate, an that it reflects the current state of your life. Things like Bodily Injury, Medpay, and Uninsured Motorist are important pieces to a policy that you may not have. Call your adjuster and discuss these policy additions, their costs, and if they are worth it to you. Things like renter's insurance are important for a person who is involved in an accident, and unfortunately, many people find out they do not have it after it is too late. Finally, check that all vehicles in your household that you want covered are, in fact, covered. You may think that both vehicles are covered in your house, when in reality, only one is. It sounds crazy, but it happens. If you are hit by a driver who does not have insurance, and you hope to use Uninsured Motorist to cover your damages, you don't want to find out that the policy does not cover the vehicle you were driving on that day.
Check for Savings
You should also call your insurance agent from time to time to ensure that you are maximizing the savings you could be getting on your policy. Insurance companies do not update these constantly, and you could be missing out on potential discounts. Discussing your current life situation with your adjuster may help maximize savings, such as a multi-car discounts. Additionally, some insurance companies offer courses or programs that will provide further discounts once completed. All of these could mean extra money in your pocket each month.
So whether you have been in an accident before, or have gone your whole life without one, start the new year off right by calling your local insurance agent and discussing possible options for coverage that fit your every-changing life. And as always, if you are hurt in an accident, it is always good to seek the advice of an experienced attorney, who can help you get the compensation you may be entitled to.
