Saint Patrick's Day falls on a Saturday this year. As such, many of you may be out
celebrating. Here are some tips to stay safe and sound while celebrating.
As usual, don’t drink and drive. Driving on Saint Paddy's is even more dangerous than the rest of the year. Millions of Americans will be out and about on this day. And many of the car accidents on this day involve drivers who have been drinking. Saint Paddy's Day is one of the deadliest alcohol-related driving days of the year.
Arrange a safe ride in advance. Designated drivers, public transportation, taxis, and ride services such as Uber and Lyft are all good options. Planning ahead is important. Don’t assume that a ride will be available on demand, as Saint Paddy's Day is extremely busy for professional drivers.
Look out for each other. Even if you have your own transportation arranged, bear in mind that your friends and fellow celebrants might not have planned ahead. Take care of those around you so everyone has a great holiday and makes it home safe and sound.
Spread the right message and lead by example. Help those you love by putting a smart plan into place and then following through with it. Show your kids they can have fun and also be safe by explaining your plan for staying safe on this holiday. Help others make a plan, and work together to make sure everyone keeps their head and stays safe on the roads.
And always wear your seatbelt!
